Ridden by Belgium’s talented rider Maartje Verberckmoes, the now 6-year-old Lamira has already made a name for herself in the international circuit. The 2019 reference of The Youngsters Auction keeps impressing in the CSI Young Horse classes and recently won two 6-year-old competitions at CSI Bonheiden. “As you can tell by her results, Lamira is very competitive, has an easy rideability and jumps clear in almost every course”, Maartje Verberckmoes tells about the daughter of Golden Dream.
Lamira was sold in 2019 in the second edition of The Youngsters Auction and continued her career at Sander Geerink Sporthorses. Ridden by Jasmin Seppälä, Lamira made it into the finals of the Dutch championships for 4-year-olds and impressed with her showjumping talent. “We went to the stables of Sander Geerink to look at some other horses, but my mother also saw Lamira on a video and really liked her. We tried her, but I was not in love straightaway. She jumped effortless, but not really impressive. We decided to try her for a second time and then I could really feel how careful she was and how easily she jumped a bigger fence”, Maartje tells about her first encounter with Lamira.
‘One of the easiest to ride’
Later on, Lamira exceeded the expectations. “In the show arena, she is so clever and stands out for her fantastic mentality. Where other young horses are sometimes spooky or impressed, she just tries a bit harder. Furthermore, she is one of my easiest horses to ride and she is always with you during the course”, Maartje continues. One of the highlights in her career so far was her performance in the World Championships for 5-year-olds horses in Lanaken last year.
“We went to Lanaken with the goal of reaching the final, but with so many horses jumping there and the difficulty of the courses, we knew that was going to be very hard”, Maartje Verberckmoes explains. “However, Lamira rose to the occasion and jumped fantastic in the first two qualifiers. We made it into the final and there she had a very unlucky rail, but she jumped fantastic. She really showed the scope and quality she has!”
Still rideable & careful on the last day
Now as a 6-year-old, Lamira continues to impress. In nearly every show, she takes multiple ribbons home and victories as well. Recently, Lamira and Maartje Verberckmoes won two 6-year-old classes at CSI Bonheiden. “Even if you go a bit against the clock on day one, she is still really rideable and super careful on the last day. That is a very good feature for a showjumper!”
Maartje has high expectations for the future with Lamira. “I think she can be a horse for the big classes. When I jump her a bit bigger at home, she does it so easily. She has a heart of gold and a fantastic mentality; she doesn’t get impressed by a bigger fence. I do not want to rush her at all, since I really believe she can be a good horse for the future. Her rideability will help her as well; it is so easy to give her the right distance and the right support, so even if one day the course will be big for her, you can easily support her to jump clear. I think Lamira can exceed everyone’s expectations!”, Maartje Verberckmoes concludes.
